DeskTopRadios.com

...About : The purpose of this site is to make listening to internet radio, music, and audio media simple and fun while providing a way to communicate with others. You can find others with like interests in music quickly and share music links with them and you already have something in common to break the ice. A complete host of music is a couple clicks away with our radio. There are no frustrations of searching for radio sites, finding the audio link, waiting for their various players to open while dealing with a lot of pop-up windows and hoping their site doesn't lock up your computer and make you start all over again. Here, you simply select and go while you stay on one page and chat. And changing stations is as simple as it is on your stereo.

Radio and Chat Help

Radio : Select a genre from the radio '---genre---' select box and the '---select station here---' option list will become available just below it for the genre you select. Then click on a station which will launch your media player or real player. An asterick ( * ) after the station name indicates that the stream is real player (now called RealOne). Otherwise the stream is windows media player. When making a new selection involving a different player, we recommend stopping or closing the present player before you make the new selection. An exclamation mark ( ! ) after the station name indicates the station is recommended. This marking (wc) after a genre selection indicates the programs are webcasts rather than commercial radio stations. ADTR stations are our own webcasting programs designed to stream with high fidelity at dial-up bandwidths in a variety of programming to which we are adding constantly. This marking (lr) after a genre selection indicates the selections are live radio. This marking (hs) after a genre selection indicates the selections are high band streaming. These require a fast internet connection to perform properly.

The radio is the same on each chat room page. You don't have to select the same genre on the radio as the chat room you are in. As you explore the radio, you'll discover 100's of listening options and we are adding to it all the time. Media player and real player help and download info is available just below the radio.

In these uncertain times for internet radio, a station or whole group of stations may shut down their broadcasting and there may be an error window associated with your player. A broken link from the terminated broadcast may even redirect your browser entirely. For this reason alone, it's a good idea to bookmark where you are before you begin selecting stations so you can return quickly. Then just make a new selection. Unfortunately, if you have an open chat when a browser redirection occurs, it will terminate your chat and you need to restart it upon returning to the launch page. We're trying to keep our links updated constantly but the broadcast climate is changing very radidly these days as internet radio is becoming threatened by unwise legislations and policitical and industry greed. Please let your congress-persons, the music association, and actor's guild know your views and remind them of your voting and boycott powers on these issues!!!

Chat : To meet with others, we suggest starting in the Lobby chat room. After you meet with someone then you can suggest another room to go to. To go to the chat room you want, select it from the selection box near the bottom of the page. Changing rooms or closing or redirecting the page a chat was launched from will terminate the current chat session. To use the chat, you must have java enabled on your browser. The chat room sign-in form may take a minute or two to load. No registration is required. Simply sign in with a chat name and a profile (something about you) and press the 'chat' button. The chat room window will then open.

To talk to someone, type your message in the text area at the bottom of the room and hit enter. Click once on someone's name to see their profile or double click to open a separate private chat window with them. More help is available from the chat launch window, in the chat room, as well as here and here.

If no one else is in the room at the moment, just hang out a while so others can see you. There is a network of other chat rooms that can see active chat rooms and connect to them when someone is in the room. The Lobby chat room is the best place to meet others initially.

Chat Room Meeting Schedules

Chat is open 24/7 and prime time seems to be 7pm to 10pm for each time zone. We now have chat rooms for 16 music genres (and counting) so you can find others with similar music interests. That makes a good ice breaker.

Nightly meetings in the Lobby chat room start at 7pm PT / 10pm ET. Visitor turn out can vary from night to night. No one will be able to see you unless you enter the room and stay there long enough to be found by others. There is no chat moderator. You may also want to use the 'recommend this site' link below the chat launch area to invite your friends by email to a room to chat. Advance notice is the most effective way to organize your chat meeting.
